I did not expect it to be gritty and it is but it's not rough and doesn't hurt. It definitely soothes, makes a huge difference and my skin feels amazing. My daughter loves it so it doesn't last as long as it should but it's clean and works so I'll pay for it. There is an added bonus that it keeps bugs away from you bc of the mint.
